 "Great keyboard-long time user" 2009-08-22
By average joe buckaroo
I've had a MacAlly ICEKEY for at least three years in a set up with an external monitor for my MacBookPro (my primary work computer). Others have mentioned a solution to the gaining full functionality for some of the keys at the top, so I won't go into that. I will say that with more than 3 years of heavy use, the keyboard works as well today as when I first purchased it (which is excellent, btw). I like the tactile feel of the keys as they are pressed. One reviewer says it feels flimsy. Maybe if you are using it as a baseball bat, but not as a keyboard. Now that I've purchased an external monitor for use at home, I'm purchasing another ICEKEY for that set up also. Now if only MacAlly would reintroduce the QBALL! Luckily I purchased a two extra at a great price when they were closing them out.

"Works with Bootcamp for older Intel iMacs..." 2009-08-22
By Joshua Kulpa (NW Ohio)
I have a "20 Intel Core Duo (white) iMac, bought in '06. I had used Bootcamp with older Apple keyboards (Bluetooth and wired), and everything worked just fine.

About a year ago I uninstalled Bootcamp to free up space. I reinstalled it a few weeks ago, using the new Apple Keyboard. To my dismay, I could not use the standard key command of holding down [Option] while booting up to select my boot drive. It turns out this is a documented flaw wherein power isn't sent to the Keyboard until after the crucial moment in bootup.

I purchased this Macally keyboard specifically to work with Bootcamp on my Mac, and it performs beautifully. I'm happy to say the feel of the keys is even better than that of the Apple Keyboard.

Great product!

I bought this for my folks who upgraded to a Mac Mini.

I wanted super easy install and use and my mom just loves it.

Great 'feel', quick and easy install, totally compatible with their computer.

Plug in to the usb port, you're done; install complete and you get to play 'computer genius'.

Plus, trim and slick looking - great overall value!

"Great keyboard, lousy software CD" 2009-07-27
By Brian Charles Clark (The Palouse, Eastern Washington)
I love this keyboard! But the volume and eject buttons, as several reviewers have noted, don't work without installing a separate driver. My Macbook recognized the keyboard, so I didn't install the driver from the CD. Then I tried to adjust the volume - no dice. Inserted the CD and installed the driver. *Still* no dice! Turns out, lamely enough, that the CD that ships with the keyboard doesn't actually contain the driver needed to make the keyboard work! Stupid. So if you're frustrated, Google "macally icekey" and install the driver. Then you'll be golden. But, jeez, Macally, why you wasting resources and shipping coasters with your product?

I like this keyboard because it's comfortable for typing, but it has one huge flaw that I've been unhappy about -- I can't change the volume using the keys provided for that purpose. They simply don't work!

"An invaluable editing tool for digital photography" 2009-08-05
By Cal Man (San Francisco, CA)
I am a serious photographer with years of experience in film and 5+ years fully immersed in the digital world. I resisted the use of a pen tab for years and needlessly struggled to achieve accurate photo edits using a mouse. About a year or so ago, I took the plunge and accepted the fact that there would be a new learning curve with the tablet.

I'm only sorry that I didn't make the switch earlier, or better yet, from the very beginning. The difference between editing with a mouse and with a tablet is analogous to trying to drive twisting mountain roads with a diesel truck vs. a Porsche. I frankly can't imagine doing my digital photo editing any other way now. In fact, I simply refuse to even tackle it with a mouse.

Within a week, you'll be comfortable with the pen in hand and with all of the time-saving short-cuts available through use of the tablet, not to mention the vastly improved quality of work that you'll produce.

Don't procrastinate. If you are serious about your digital art, then this is the only way to go.

I really am glad that I found this pad. It was a great price and I don't regret it in the least. It took some time finding the correct device driver for my computer but that's a Wacom issue not an Amazon issue. The shipping was awesome and the package arrived when I expected it. Will buy more like this in the future

"Review from a graphic design student" 2009-07-24
By D. Jewel (Southern Utah)
I'm a student at a small university working to get my BFA in graphic design. One of our iMac labs has one of these at each of them. I knew that it would be a great tool to have at home to use on my personal projects. I have been very happy with the results. I use it with Photoshop CS3 and it does very well. It allows you to set how sensitive your touch to the pad is; thus allowing how the brush tool will respond. I don't use the short cuts at all, but I did try--they just don't do a thing for me. Actually, when i need to work into those corners, my hand may have to rest there and can lead to some unwanted clicks. I have run into a problem (I'm not sure who's to blame) when using the tablet with Photoshop: Sometimes it will not recognize the touches on the tablet or will only draw in straight lines. I usually fix this by actually using my mouse to draw a stroke, then switch back to the pen. A few times I had to reboot Photoshop. But other then those minor problems, this product is great. I really recommend those are going into digital illustration and graphic design to get one. This size works perfect. I don't see a need for amateur photographers to own one if all you're doing is cleaning up some blemishes. If you feel you need one, go with a smaller tablet (I would suggest the Bamboo line that Wacom has).

There's not much that can be faulted in Wacom's product line. And again the Wacom Intuos 3 out performs any other tablet by any other company. I have bought 6 of these for my design firm and have yet to see one fail or be faulty. In my opinion it is unconditionally worth the price for the quality product you get.

people at apple store suggested i get a kensington, upwards of over $100, I figured this would be a great value. Unlike the other major brand, its quality matches the price.

there seems to be missing one of the small "ball bearing" sensors moving the ball, and it is difficult to clean as opposed to experience.

performance matches quality

"How sad, I expected better...." 2009-07-09
By Lil (Philadelphia, PA United States)
After having 3 optical mice go back on me in the last 6 months or so, I am becoming more and more convinced that these optical pointing devices are not durable as much as the good old ball-mouse and trackpads used to be.

I still have a couple of serial (PS/2) mice and Mac Plus mice still working, and yet the optical stuff doesn't work. I was told, not too long ago, that if there is debris or dust particles underneath where the light shows that the optical mouse wouldn't work. Well, where are all those promises about "no more mouse ball cleaning" optical pointing devices are "maintenance free"?... blah blah, well I cleaned them and nothing. At least the old ones worked when you cleaned them!

Well, I decided to order this trackball about 2 months ago. Yes, about 2 months of use and its malfunctioning; specially the left mouse button. And that only includes durability, here are the other problems I had BEFORE it started to go bad:

1. The ball keeps coming out. This is not hard, since I use this with an iBook and sometimes sitting on my bed, if I move there goes the ball. Also, when it comes to having children around this device, my 3 year old son keeps running away with the ball. I used to own a trackball previously (5 years ago) which had a detachable cover around the ball, which would prevent it from coming out. It was easily removable so when you really wanted the ball out, you would just lift the cover by pressing on both sides and there it was. Meanwhile, the ball coming out on this device is more of a problem when carrying it. Since I use a laptop, this is a big issue for me.

2. Awkward positioned buttons are too sensitive to the touch. I find myself clicking on them by accident when setting up all the time. If I put a book, or any item near the trackball, the buttons get clicked. When connecting and disconnecting USB devices to my laptop, or when I pop a CD in, there it goes again. The problem is, these buttons are INDEED sideways. In the picture the curvature of the trackpad is not too evident, you learn about it when you actually use it.

3. It takes some time to get used to, more than a mouse or another trackpad would. In a couple of days I got used to most pointing devices I got previously. It took me one week and some days to get used to this. The look of the design might "seem to be" an easy design to work with, but I ask myself 'Did they bother to test this device in the company at all'?

Well, do respond to this review if you've had the same issues. I am quite disappointed, it is a shame better pointing devices can cost hundreds of dollars where is this world coming to?

"Kensington Orbit Optical Trackball Mouse 64327" 2009-06-17
By Linda J. Ellis (Cleveland, Ohio)
I ordered the Kensington "roller ball" mouse because I had used it extensively at my job. I wanted the same comfort and convenience at home. I enjoy the product and it has saved my elbow, lower right arm, and even shoulder from pain due to having to move the standard mouse around and the darn scroll 'thingy' in the middle of it which caused me pain. I would recommend it for anyone having problems using a regular mouse. If you need to do a lot of "mousing" and extensive typing, you may wish to consider having a roller ball type mouse for each hand so you can switch off and give your dominant hand a rest. It does take some getting used to, but after you have mastered it, you will feel like you are being more productive and with less stress and pain. I like the fact that this type of roller ball mouse isn't too elevated and your hand isn't perched up too high where your wrist is bent up too high either.

The only problem you might have is if you have severe trouble moving your thumb and/or fingers because they do the "walking and working" for you instead of your arm and elbow. So, keep your old mouse if you have thumb surgery, but otherwise give this mouse a try!

I bought this even after the negative comments from many customers. So far, it is running fine. But one day, after about a month of purchase, the adapter started making loud cracking noise. I thought that was the end of its use. But it started working again by the end of my drive! It's working fine now, but I am not sure how long it will survive. So be aware of its problems before you decide to buy this :)

I had read some reviews of various cassette adaptors for IPODs and how the problems they have. So I was somewhat reluctant to purchase one. This works better than I expected. The music clarity is great, I have been using it every day for several weeks without any problems. I had tried an FM transmitter, they are worthless, as it is impossible to find clear frequencies that work. I highly recommend this if you have a cassette player in your car and want to use it to play your IPOD.

"Great keyboard at a great price" 2009-06-20
By J. A. Ramsey (Syracuse, NY USA)
I wanted a keyboard with a USB hookup that wasn't too expensive. I bought this one based upon the reviews, and let me say, they are ALL true. This keyboard is great. It's not too loud, is comfortable to type on (the keys really feel "soft"), and it has a lot of nice features. It looks nice too! The zoom feature works in Picasa (what I use for my pics) and even lets you switch from picture to picture if you're zoomed all the way out in a pic. I hooked up my Digsby to work with the "messenger" shortcut, picked Chrome for my internet shortcut, and gmail for my email shortcut. Easy to do, and intuitive. Works great, install the CD to be able to add your shortcuts. I connected keyboard before installing and nothing bad happened (even though it said to install first). So all around great keyboard for the money! Love it so far!

"letters wear off almost immediately" 2009-06-08
By J Dakotah (USA)
HELP

I LOVE this keyboard and its the only one I buy. I have 4 others at least that are just setting around right now because the lettering has worn off so quickly. I have given some to people who don't mind that the white has worn off the keys. I gave it 4 stars but would gladly give it 5 if only there was a way to keep the white letters (and symbols and numbers) from wearing off the keys so soon. The keyboard I am using now was new in December '08. Already half the keys are blank. On the keys I use most, the white started coming off within a month. I am a good typist but I do want to see what the keys are since I need to see them for most symbols and numbers. I have tried clear nail polish but that didn't work at all. Can you please tell me what to do to keep the white letters showing? I bought some stick on letters but they are not worth buying since they are raised and bumpy and actually slow down my typing speed as well as makes my fingertips hurt with all the typing I do. Other stick on letters won't work either. Otherwise this keyboard with its quiet and easy to press keys is perfect and I don't want to have to go to any other keyboard.

I have never read a review where people have left this complaint. Surely I am not the only one to have this happen with this particular brand of keyboard. What's going on with the ones I buy?

UPDATE

I am still hoping someone will tell me if they are having the same problem with this keyboard that I am having with the several keyboards just like this one that I have bought (and love) - that the letters wear off in a short time and there is no way to tell what key you are hitting unless you are a perfect typist, especially when it comes to needing to know where the numbers and symbols are located on the keyboard. Do you know a solution other than the ones I've already tried? (listed in my note above)

 "Fairly decent" 2009-05-25
By Chas Devlin (Los Angeles, CA United States)
Out of the many, many keyboards out there, this is one is actually decent. I'd been using Dell's standard k/b that came with most of their machines. Works fine, but too noisy.

I've tried Logitech and various other wired/wireless ergonomic keyboards (Microsoft included), but couldn't get used to the flat, compact design -- the keys all close together. And I hated the 'wave' design on some. Not for me.

This one's not pretty and it's kinda dated, but it's quiet and the keys are like my Dell k/b -- spaced out just right. I'll probably never use half the features, but for basic typing for normal-sized hands, it's not bad at all.

 "Excellent PDA" 2009-07-21
By Edward Aljian (USA)
Overall, an excellent PDA. Let me dispense with the negatives first. My first hp-111 would often give a blank white screen, which no soft or hard reset could fix. I returned it to Amazon within 30 days and they sent me another unit overnight. It's been a month now, no white screens. Another negative, the buttons are not perfectly flush with each other. That may matter to some.

Otherwise, this is a perfect device who wants a Windows Mobile PDA without having to subscribe to a phone service. All features work well. HP's screen protectors (sold separately) are also nice: Reduces glare, and provides a pleasant surface to write on.

This is my second ipaq and for the money, it was a good upgrade, considering that it has the web wireless connectivity integrated and improve a bit the performance and the bottons and looking.

I miss the dock station, and the syncronization speed it is slower than the old model, due to a extended process. The updated operating system has some differences interms of the menus, but some minor changes. I guess I will miss the Nevo apllication it has my old model, that allow me to use the ipaq as a remote control, that it was very useful sometime. For me it is a really a good tool, that release me of my other three agendas. The migration was esay too. It was recognize right away and syncronize everything. Be aware not to leave the wireless connectivity on if you are not using it, that will really save you on the battery time.
